A perfect way to see more of the area is with the “Trenino Verde”, the green train. This will take you to places that you cannot reach by car. With the “Trenino Verde” from Arbatax you can make a fascinating excursion through the beautiful landscape of Ogliastra. The train runs at a moderate speed and so you can enjoy the natural beauty that this area has to offer in a relaxed way.
Beautiful cruises are offered from the harbor of Arbatax along the east coast of Sardinia. During these trips you can often also visit the nearby caves or enjoy one of the secluded bays.
Area Information :
Ogliastra, created as a new province from the province of Nuoro, extends from the peaks of the Gennargentu to the sea and offers a very varied landscape on the east coast of Sardinia. The coastline is well known for its huge red cliffs and secluded and hidden bays that alternate. This makes the area very popular with both beach lovers and active holidaymakers who like to explore this region on foot or by mountain bike. When you drive up via Baunei, you arrive at the Altopiano di Golgo plateau. This nature reserve is also ideal for walking. With a bit of luck you will encounter donkeys, horses, cows, goats and wild boars during your hike. If a little bit of climbing doesn’t scare you, we definitely recommend descending to the “pearl of the Baunei”:
The island of Sardinia is known for its coasts with beautiful beaches, but also knows how to surprise you with unspoiled nature and rugged peaks. Inland, horses and bulls, goats and wild boars live in the wild. By the sea you will find lagoons with the graceful pink flamingos and with a little luck you can also spot dolphins.
